Not a Worm, But Not Wanted

Ringworm is actually caused by a fungus and not a worm as originally thought, but the name has stuck. It leaves round hairless marks all over your dog. Eventually, these itch so much that they open up and often can get crusted over in a scab-like layer of skin. Pockets of pus then develop in these lesions. But first, it looks as if there are strange little bald dots all over your dog or puppy.

Take to Vet Immediately

Ringworm does not get better by itself. It needs the prompt treatment of a vet. This is one medical condition that isn't very expensive to treat and can often be cured. Don't wait until your dog is bleeding from the bald spots. Take it to the vet as soon as you see those round bald spots. The sooner ringworm is treated, the sooner it's over and done with.

Extra Precaution For Dog People

Ringworm in dogs can be easily transferred to people. You need to wear gloves and wash your body parts that come into contact with your dog while it is infected. You also need to keep your dog away from other people, especially children, people with immune problems and the elderly. Be sure any of your dog's grooming tools are sterilized because ringworm fungus spores can hide in the tools.
