You can use essential oils to keep moths from putting holes in your clothes.

Moths not only look unsightly in the home, but also can create holes in clothing and linens. Although most people turn to mothballs to kill moths, you can also use essential oils to repel moths naturally. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Facts

    • Peppermint essential oil kills mold, viruses and bacteria, but it doesn't kill moths, it just repels them from the area. Peppermint extract, which is less concentrated than the oil, doesn't kill moths either. Although both repel moths, the essential oil works better since it's at a higher concentration.

    Instructions

    • You can make a simple satchel with a handkerchief, cotton balls and ribbon. Sprinkle a few drops of the essential oil onto some cotton balls and place them in the center of the handkerchief. Tie the satchel closed with a ribbon, and place the satchel in the drawer or in the closet with your clothes. Periodically refresh the oil on the cotton balls when you notice the minty smell fading.

    Tips

    • Peppermint oil is stronger than peppermint extract. The exact strength of extract compared to oil varies based on the brand name, so if you're using extract in a recipe instead of oil, use about twice as much, adding more until you're satisfied with the mint flavor.
