Specifications of the 1999 International DT466E Engine

The International Harvester company was founded in 1902 as an agricultural and commercial truck manufacturer. Four years later, the company starting producing gasoline farming trucks for the consumer market. The International DT466E engine is common to buses and other commercial transport vehicles.

  • The DT466E engine is an inline, six-cylinder powerhouse with a displacement of 466 cubic inches. Its diesel-powered propulsion offers a fuel-efficient alternative to gasoline engines of this size and power. Additional power comes from the turbocharger and air-intercooled system. The DT466E weighs 1,425 lbs.

  • Standard torque models of the 1999 DT466E offer power ranges of between 195 and 230 horsepower, with torque ratings advertised at 520 to 620 foot-pounds of torque. International also provided high-end torque models, producing 215 to 250 horsepower and 620 to 800 foot-pounds of torque.

  • The aluminum pistons give the DT466E engine its life and power. With a bore and stroke of 4.59 inches by 4.68 inches, this short stroke size and increased bore width minimize wear exerted on the cylinders. Lower piston temperatures assist this increase in engine life.

  • Standard-torque DT466E engines come equipped in heavy-duty commercial vehicles, such as International school buses and International six-wheeled hauling cabs.
