Graphics Aperture Size for Intel Extreme Graphics

Personal computers are increasingly being used as entertainment systems in addition to work stations, and that requires keeping up with the robust graphics found in computer games and movies. You can get the most from your Intel computer with the right aperture size.

Function

The accelerated graphics port (AGP) enables your computer to render graphics quickly and smoothly using random access memory (RAM). The aperture size is memory measured in megabytes (MB) that have been reserved from your system's RAM for graphics processing.

Aperture Size Required

While it is possible to adjust the aperture size from 4 MB to 256 MB, it is recommended that the aperture setting remain at 64 MB even if the system's RAM is less than this amount.

Considerations

If you find that playing computer games produces a "choppy" display effect, you may find that adjusting the aperture size helps. Keep in mind that adjusting the AGP to a higher value will not necessarily increase performance, as this function only sets the allowable amount of physical memory to be used.
