What Is the Stand Alarm Feature in Bikes?

Motorcycles are less protected from theft than cars due to their light weight. Thieves may be able to lift the bike and steal it even without picking a lock. A stand alarm detects movement of the motorcycle and sets off an audible alarm.

  1. Parts

    • A stand alarm is made up of a tilt sensor and an alarm siren. The tilt sensor is placed on a vertical surface when the bike is on the side stand and so is leaned over to the left slightly. The system is powered by the bike battery.

    Adjustments

    • Some stand alarms can be adjusted for sensitivity by the rider. The sensitivity settings allow for a certain level of movement of the bike when the rider sits onto it. Alarms may also have on and off features or contain a panic alarm riders can set off remotely in emergency situations.

    Mechanism

    • The angle of the sensor changes when the bike is brought up vertically from the side stand position to drive it, setting the alarm siren off.
