What Do I Need to Know Before Buying Awnings?
Awnings not only dress up windows, doors and outdoor spaces, they provide protection from the sun and rain. Although cost is certainly a consideration, there are several other factors to consider before purchasing an awning. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Considerations
-
Awnings come in fixed metal, fixed canvas or retractable canvas styles. Although fixed metal awnings are the least expensive, they don't have the advantage of being able to change as fixed canvas awnings do. Retractable awnings are the most expensive, but you may want to consider one if you don't want to create permanent coverage over an area.
Warranty
-
Different companies offer different warranty periods for their awnings. Different fabrics carry different warranties, as well. Custom awning fabricators may offer separate warranties for the materials and the workmanship. Retractable awnings generally carry different warranty periods for the framework and the fabric.
-
Time Frame
-
Custom awnings take longer than stock awnings, and canvas awnings can be very labor-intensive and take longest of all. If you are in a hurry for an awning, you may need to consider purchasing a stock awning from a home improvement store, rather than investing the time waiting for a custom awning made to your specifications.
