Why Won't the Mozilla Firefox Search Engine Work?

To search in Firefox, type your keywords into the search box and press Enter or click the magnifying glass.

Mozilla Firefox is a Web browser that allows you to view the Internet. Firefox features a box on its toolbar that connects to the search engine of your choice. A malfunctioning search engine may be due to software or network error.

Software Problems

If the search box does not let you type or is not linking to your search results at all, there may be an issue with the Firefox software itself. If part of the program has been corrupted, you will want to uninstall and reinstall Firefox to correct the issue.

Internet Connection

If you use the search box and a message comes up telling you the page could not be found, your Internet connection may be down. Check your modem, router and cables for connectivity issues. You may need to call your Internet service provider for help troubleshooting your connection.

Search Engine

There may be times the search engine you've chosen is temporarily not working properly. In Firefox, you can switch to a different search engine by clicking on the icon next to the search box and then clicking the search engine you want to use.
