The Recommended Gas for a 2.5 VW Engine

Volkswagen offers a five cylinder gasoline engine on several models including the Jetta, Jetta Sportwagen, Golf and New Beetle. This engine provides good performance according to AOL Autos and does so with regular gasoline, its recommended fuel grade.

Volkswagen Jetta

The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta has a 2.5-liter five cylinder engine on SE and SEL trim levels of both the Jetta sedan and the Jetta Sportwagen. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The Jetta five-cylinder engine is rated at 170 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 177 foot-pounds of torque at 4,250 rpm.

Other Applications

The Volkswagen 2.5-liter five cylinder engine found in the Golf offers identical horsepower and torque ratings. In the New Beetle, this engine is rated at 150 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 170 foot-pounds of torque at 3,750 rpm.

Fuel Economy

With a manual transmission, the five cylinder Volkswagen Jetta is rated at 22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway. With an automatic transmission, this model is rated at 23 mpg city, 30 mpg highway. In the Volkswagen New Beetle this engine is rated at 20 mpg city, 28 mpg highway with with a manual transmission and 20 mpg city, 29 mpg highway with the automatic.
