Consumers in Louisiana, and throughout the United States, have two types of bankruptcy options available to them: Chapter 7 and Chapter 13. Chapter 7 liquidation eliminates most of a debtor's obligations. Chapter 13 reorganization modifies a debtor's obligations with the intent to repay some or all debts.
Motion Fees
-
Bringing certain motions before the court can also incur fees in your bankruptcy proceeding. Some more common fees/motions (as of 2010) would be: motion to convert Chapter 13 to Chapter 7 ($25), motion to abandon property ($150), motion to reopen Chapter 7 ($260) and a motion to reopen Chapter 13 ($235). Occasionally, debtors who file bankruptcy jointly, like married couples, may wish to sever their cases later and proceed with them separately. The cost for this type of motion in Louisiana is $260 for Chapter 7 and $235 for Chapter 13.

Other Fees

The clerk of the courts also charges fees for certain services provided by the court upon request. For example, copies cost $.10 per page for electronic reproduction and $.50 per page for paper reproduction. To get a certified copy of a document, the clerk of the court assesses a $9 fee. If you pay fees to the court by check and that check is later returned, the clerk will assess a $45 fee.
