Internet Router Installation & Troubleshooting Guide

Wireless Internet routers are used in conjunction with a modem to allow a computer to connect wirelessly to the Internet. Problems with establishing a wireless Internet connection can be caused by either hardware or the Internet connection.

  1. Equipment

    • To install a wireless Internet connection, certain equipment is needed, including a broadband Internet connection, modem, wireless router and a network adapter. Most PCs and laptops manufactured in 2010 have a built-in wireless adapter allowing configuration to a wireless network.

    Troubleshooting

    • When a wireless Internet connection is installed but will not connect to the Internet, undertake a thorough check of whether all cables are securely installed. If all cables are installed, the computer should be connected directly to the modem. If the Internet can still not be found, contact the Internet service provider, as the problem could be with the Internet connection.

    Reset

    • If all LED lights on the router and modem are lit correctly with all cables securely in place and the Internet can still not be found on the computer, turn the router off and then on again. You can reset the router using instructions that should be available in the owners manual.
