What Is an Adobe Reader Plug-In? thumbnail
An Adobe Reader Plug-in allows you to display PDF documents on the browser.

Plug-ins are software components that add specific functionality to another piece of software. Adobe Reader plug-ins allow PDF documents to be displayed within the Web browser. The plug-in attaches itself to the browser, allowing PDF documents to be viewed without downloading.

  1. Requirements

    • For documents to open directly inside your browser, you must have the Adobe Reader application installed on your computer. You can then install the plug-in from the Adobe website to be able to view PDF documents from the browser.

    Reader Settings

    • The Adobe Reader application also needs to be set to allow documents to be accessible via the browser. Under the Internet category, make sure "Display PDF in Browser" is checked.

    Limitations

    • As of 2010, Adobe Reader plug-ins for Mac OS Gecko-based browsers such as Firefox and SeaMonkey do not exist.
