Fire Hydrant Flow Test Equipment

Hydrants need test equipment to verify the amount of water flowing.

Fire hydrants need inspections to verify whether they are outputting the correct amount of pressurized water or not. Fire departments rely on each hydrant to fight fires, and if one is malfunctioning, it can lead to death and destruction.

Types

Many types of fire hydrant flow test equipment are available. Cap pressure gauges record the water pressure at the hydrant itself, while a pitot pressure gauge measures the speed of the water exiting the hydrant.

Considerations

Electronic flow testers are used to create graphs to analyze the flow data, from pressure to the actual flow rate. By saving this data, past readings can be evaluated to reveal any problems that exist or to prevent breakdowns in the future if flow and pressure rates are abnormal.

Significance

By verifying proper hydrant water pressure in an area, damage from fire can minimized, perhaps eventually leading to reduced property insurance rates.
