How Much Space Does a Sugar Glider Need?

Sugar gliders are small marsupials frequently kept as pets. The animals are named for their ability to jump and glide. They require sufficient living space to carry out these athletic maneuvers.

  1. Minimum Size

    • Your sugar glider needs lots of room to climb, jump and glide. As such, the smallest cage that you should purchase for your sugar glider is 36 inches tall by 18 inches deep by 30 inches wide. The cages should be coated in epoxy to prevent the animals from chewing on the metal.

    Maximum

    • There is no upper limit on the size of the cage that you can buy for your sugar glider. The more space sugar gliders have to move around, the more comfortable they will be.

    Bonding

    • Sugar gliders need to be removed from their cage to interact with their owners. Interaction with their owners results in the sugar gliders bonding with their owners. Typically, two to three hours per day of out-of-cage interaction is enough to encourage your sugar glider to bond with you.
