VoIP Sound Problems

VoIP allows you to use your high-speed Internet connection for phone service.

Voice over IP (VoIP) offers fully-featured phone services at competitive pricing, perfect for households that have cell phones in addition to a land line, or even those on a budget. However, VoIP can sometimes come with sound quality issues.

Cable Integrity

Make sure that your cables are all in good condition. Replace any cables that are broken, frayed or punctured, as these problems can affect sound quality.

Bandwidth

VoIP uses your Internet connection to send packets of data; if you have other programs using up your bandwidth, this can cause audio problems. Close any programs or downloads while you're on the phone.

Device Interference

If your phone is cordless, make sure that the base is at least four feet away from your router; sometimes the router signal can interfere with the signal from the telephone.

Telephone Issues

Some problems with sound quality can come from the handset itself; old or cheap phones often have lesser sound quality. If you hear an echo or warble, try a different headset.
