ANSI Homeland Security Standards
According to the Homeland Security Standards Database, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) work together to develop standards for use by government agencies and private sector companies involved in homeland security efforts.
-
History
-
The ANSI was established in 1918 by a combination of engineering societies and government agencies as a private, not-for-profit organization. In 2003 the ANSI Homeland Security Standards Panel was created to identify existing and develop new standards.
Standards
-
The initial area covered by the ANSI Homeland Security Standards Panel included first responders to emergency situations; these standards are based on the standard equipment list for first responders. The Homeland Security Standards Database reports that the scope of the standards published for homeland security will expand to include all aspects of the department.

Members
-
The ANSI Homeland Security Standards Panel is open to groups involved in homeland security, including members of industry, government, standards developers and professional societies. The ANSI creates and endorses international standards in cooperation with the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission.
