Symantec Backup Exec is a utility program used to back up servers and sometimes individual business PCs. A common issue with the software is for backup jobs to become trapped in "queued" status.
When a Backup Exec job reports that it is "queued," the software is waiting for an action before beginning the task. This message sometimes means the program is waiting for a previous job to complete or that there is an outstanding alert that needs to be cleared before the job can commence.
Check any outstanding alerts to ensure the issues have been cleared. If you discover no clear reason why a job is remaining in "queued" status, Symantec suggests a couple of options to unblock the job.
Stop and restart all Backup Exec services. This process can be accomplished from within the Backup Exec console. Frequently, the procedure allows the job to commence. Also attempt to pause the job and resume, which sometimes gives the backup job a kick-start.
To ensure hardware factors are not causing the problem,determine whether the backup device is available and writeable. If you have an external backup device, cycle the power off and back on, which sometimes causes a queued job to start correctly.
