The Difference Between the Acura RL & TL

Honda's luxury vehicle brand, Acura, has been selling vehicles such as sport coupes, sedans and sport utility vehicles since 1986. Its RL and TL models are two popular varieties with key differences.

  1. Acura RL

    • Manufactured from model year 2005 until 2010, the RL was billed by Acura as a "sumptuous luxury sedan." The 2010 model featured a 300-horsepower, 3.7L VTEC V-6 engine, all-wheel drive and an optional Acura Navigation System with real-time traffic and weather. The MSRP starting price of the 2010 Acura RL was $46,830.

    Acura TL

    • The Acura TL, still being manufactured as of the 2011 model year, is presented as an upscale mid-size car. The base model for 2011 boasts a 280-horsepower, 3.5L, VTEC V-6 engine, all-wheel drive and an optional Acura Navigation System. The TL's MSRP starting price is $35,305.

    Key Differences

    • The RL was a larger and more powerful model than the mid-sized TL, and its higher base price reflected that. It came standard with a more powerful 300-horsepower engine, though the TL does offer a 305-horsepower engine as an upgrade. Though both cars are 195 inches long overall, the RL's wheelbase is slightly longer, at 110 inches, than the TL's 109-inch wheelbase. The TL is slightly wider than the RL -- 74 inches compared to 72 inches.
