Climate for Planting Barley and Wheat

Barley and wheat are two different types of popular grains. Barley is often used in foods like soup and flour. Wheat is found in foods like pasta, flour and bread. Both have several climates in which they can be planted.

Barley

Barley is known as a very adaptable grain, meaning it can be planted in a variety of climates and soils, according to The Canadian Encyclopedia. However, barley is most often planted in the spring or winter.

Wheat

Wheat planted in the United States can be grown in both the winter and spring. According to Wise Geek, winter wheat is planted in the fall and matures in the summer. Spring wheat is planted after the last frost and matures in the summer.

Geography

Both wheat and barley have geographical landmarks. Middle East and Africa are major producers of barley; whereas Australia, Canada and the United States are large producers of wheat. However, both grains are grown in a variety of countries.
