The Storage Capacity of the Wii
Games, game saves and downloadable content can all be housed on the Nintendo Wii through the console's internal memory. Space is limited, but the storage capacity of the Wii can be expanded upon with SD cards. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Capacity
-
The storage capacity of the Nintendo Wii is 512 megabytes of space. The capacity is known as flash memory, meaning there is no internal hard drive for the console.
Blocks
-
Memory within the Wii is translated into blocks. Every megabyte of memory on the Wii equals about four blocks of space. Game saves take up between four and eight blocks of memory on average. Downloaded games can take up over 150 blocks.
-
Uses
-
The flash memory of the Wii houses all data from game saves, games and channels downloaded through the Wii Shop and any downloadable content such as maps, skins and songs used in games.
Expansion
-
You can insert any SD card with a storage capacity up to 32GB into the SD card slot on the front of the Wii. The SD card can be used to store the same data as the Wii's flash memory, but game saves must be moved back to the Wii to be recognized by their respective games.
