Are Roundworms & Pinworms in Grass?
Roundworms and pinworms are types of nematodes, which are small invertebrates with long round bodies. Nematodes are unsegmented, transparent worms. Roundworms and pinworms can be picked up from dirt or grass. Children may pick them up from playgrounds or playmates. Does this Spark an idea?

Roundworms

You or your children may develop roundworm infection if you touch your mouth with your hands. Hands may become contaminated from touching contaminated surfaces, such as grass. Infection also can be contracted by eating food that isn't thoroughly washed.
Pinworms

Pinworm infection is the most common type of roundworm infection in the United States, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Pinworm infection is spread mainly by children because they aren't as careful as adults about what they put in their mouths. Pinworm eggs in grass are so tiny they can't be seen.

According to Alabama Cooperative Extension System, nematodes sometimes damage turfgrass. The female may lay eggs in roots or soil. Nematode injury to turfgrass may cause wilting, yellowing and reduced growth.
