The right nursery lighting will help to showcase your baby's furniture and accessories.

If you're decorating your little one's nursery, you know that the right lighting effects can make the room decor especially attractive. Lighting also serves a functional purpose in the baby nursery, and will help to keep your baby safe while making the space more appealing. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Size

    • The size of your baby's nursery will help you to determine how much lighting you'll need. For a large nursery space, a main light, as well as a lamp for the corner where the rocking chair is positioned is ideal--it gives the nursery a nurturing look, and allows you to see your baby clearly as you're rocking him to sleep. If the nursery is smaller, one main light with a dimmer may be best so that you can reduce the light while your little one is sleeping without adding extra furniture to the space.

    Significance

    • Different forms of lighting should be placed in significant areas of the nursery to properly showcase the furniture and make the space safe for your baby. For instance, it's a good idea to purchase a lamp with dim lighting that goes directly over the baby's crib so that you can see your little one sleeping. As your baby grows and is able to move around the room, adequate lighting near your child's toy box or play area will allow your little one to play safely.

    Considerations

    • If you've decorated the nursery with certain items that you want to showcase, it's a good idea to use smaller lights. For instance, if you've enlarged a photo of your baby and placed it on the main wall, a light underneath the portrait will make it one of the main pieces in the room, even when the main light is off.
