    • Johnson College's program leads to an associate's in applied science degree (AAS). Students are trained in areas such as blueprint reading and HVAC codes, pipe fitting, air conditioning systems and HVAC controls. An internship and a cooperative education course are part of the curriculum. At the completion of Penn Foster training, students are provided with a voucher and study material for the national Environment Protection Agency (EPA) 608 Certification. With the EPA credential, technicians can legally purchase refrigerants.

    • Penn Foster's training for HVAC technicians is an online program administered from the student service center in Scranton. Johnson College's HVAC training involves classroom instruction. The Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County offers classroom-based continuing education training for individuals who possess an EPA certification.

    • Johnson College's admission requirements include one year of algebra with a grade of C or higher, two years of English with a C or better and a grade-point average of at least 2.0 For entry into the Penn Foster program, students must possess a high school diploma or GED.
