Is it Proper to Note on Baby Shower Invitations That Gift Cards Are Welcome?

Expectant mothers typically register for gifts, as a way of helping others know what they want and need. It's acceptable to list information about gifts and gift cards on the shower invitations but you should use caution, to not offend anyone.

Wording

If you ask for gift cards, write that information on the bottom of each invitation. For example, "Jane Doe would prefer gift cards from Store X, in lieu of gifts" or, "Jane is registered at Store X."

Considerations

Use only one store name per invitation, even if the mother-to-be is registered at multiple stores. It's better if she receives small gift cards from one store than small cards from multiple stores.

Warning

Some guests may find it tacky ask for gift cards, or even gifts from specific stores, on the baby shower invitations. You may prefer keeping that information off the invitations and letting guests ask about what to buy and where to buy.
