Storage Capacity of Flash Memory Cards
Flash memory cards are small drives used to store and transfer data between electronic devices. Commonly used with printers, computers, digital cameras and many other devices, different card classifications carry with them different storage capacities.
-
SD Cards
-
While not the only class of flash memory cards, Secured Digital (SD) technology is used by many flash memory card manufacturers. Original SD cards have a 2GB storage capacity capable of storing about 200 pictures at 6.4MB each.
SDHC Cards
-
The successor to SD cards, Secured Digital High Capacity (SDHC) cards can hold up to 32GB. That's about 4,600 6.4MB pictures, according to Lexar Media.
-
SDXC
-
Standing for Secured Digital Extreme Capacity, SDXC cards are a vast improvement over SDHC cards. With the same physical size, SDXC cards can hold up to 2TB of data, about 2,000 GB.
Potential
-
Just five years ago a 2TB flash memory card was unheard of. As technology advances, higher capacity cards will continue to be introduced.
