Java Platform
-
With three different mainstream platforms in existence (Windows, Macintosh and Linux), developers of software had to create three different versions of all their products in order to be usable by all customers. With the Java platform, they only had to create one. Because each of the three platforms can run their own version of the virtual machine, the same Java application can run on any of them.
