50s & 60s Theme Parties
Grace Kelly, Cary Grant, Natalie Wood---these are a few of the stars who represent the glamour of the 1950s and early 1960s. Parties focusing on the 1950s and early 1960s, before the turmoil that occurred in the latter part of the decade, can be a great way to tap into nostalgia by throwing a '50s or '60s theme party to entertain your guests. Does this Spark an idea?

Audrey Hepburn
-
Audrey Hepburn is the ultimate movie star of the 1950s and 1960s. Not only did she make a variety of films between the two decades, but she also defined their fashions as a style icon. Have your guests come as their favorite guest from an Audrey Hepburn movie---whether it's as Eliza Doolittle, Sabrina or Holly Golightly.
"Mad Men"
-
With the television show gaining popularity each week, "Mad Men"---the ultimate expression of 1960s style---makes a great party theme. Make sure to have plenty of cocktails on hand (for adults only) and have your guests come as their favorite character. Decorate with your favorite advertisements from the 1960s. Check the AMC "Mad Men" website for other decorating ideas.

Doris Day
-
Have a wholesome, sunny party with a Doris Day theme. Women should adapt the most coiffed hairdos possible---flipped out at the chin, up in a bouffant---and men should dress in their best Rock Hudson suits. Cookies and tea should be served, and decorations should be in primary colors: sunny and cheery, just like Doris herself. Screenings of classic movies, such as "Pillow Talk," are a great way to end the gathering.
