What Are Baguette Diamonds?

What Are Baguette Diamonds? thumbnail
Diamonds can be cut into a baguette shape.

Diamonds are one of the most popular gemstones and they can be cut into a variety of shapes. One of the popular accent cuts is the baguette. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Cut

    • The cut of a baguette diamond gets its name from the shape of the cut. A baguette cut is rectangular, long and skinny. The cut was named for the similarly shaped baguette bread loaf.

    Use

    • The shape of the baguette diamond is not particularly flattering to feature as a solitaire stone. This is mostly because the stone reflects less light in this shape than other shapes such as the brilliant cut. Therefore baguette diamonds are typically used as accent or side stones in jewelry.

    Appearance

    • Although the baguette cut does not reflect much light, it does accentuate the diamond's luster. The long, exposed face (or "table") of the diamond allows the adamantine luster to shine. This luster is specific to diamonds often described as resembling slightly greasy glass.
