Laptop Computer Evaluation Criteria
Because of their portability, laptop computers are fast becoming the computer of choice for people around the world. Evaluating which laptop is best depends on a variety of factors, including its intended use. Many smaller, more portable laptops are designed with longer battery life in mind, whereas larger laptops are often built with speed and storage space in mind.

Size and Weight
-
Laptop computers come in a variety of sizes and weights. Netbooks, the smallest laptop computers, measure as little as ten inches diagonally from one corner of the screen to the other. Traditional laptop screens generally measure between thirteen and sixteen inches diagonally, although larger models do exist. In 2010, laptops can weigh from as little as one pound to as much as almost ten pounds, depending on the model.
Speed
-
The overall speed of a laptop computer depends on the individual speed and efficiency of a variety of items within the computer, including the speed of the central processor and hard drive. The amount of computer memory, or RAM, measured in gigabytes, also plays a large role in the overall speed of the laptop.

Other Considerations
-
Other important considerations to make when evaluating a laptop computer include the type of operating system it uses, the projected battery life, the resolution of the screen, and size of hard drive. Price is, of course, also usually a determining factor, and when evaluating which laptop to buy, most people will attempt to strike a personal balance between price and performance.
