Processor Vs. Graphic Card

The processor (or CPU) and graphics card are two essential parts of a computer. A processor provides a computer with decision making capabilities, while a graphics card allows a computer to display images on a computer monitor.

Processor

The processor is responsible for the execution and processing of instructions given from the hardware and programs running on a computer. It is essentially a decision maker that interprets information coming in, and sends information back out to execute tasks relating to the information it received. Processors are now capable of sending and receiving information faster, by using multiple cores on the same processor chip.

Graphics Card

Graphics cards (also known as video adapters, video cards, video boards, and video controllers) are used to display images on a computers monitor. A graphics card works with a computer processor to transfer data to a monitor, to tell it what it needs to display. Newer graphics cards are capable of working in pairs (two or more graphics cards) to provide a computer with powerful graphic processing capabilities.

History

Graphics cards were initially invented for printers in the 1960s, but the first computer graphics card was introduced in 1981 by IBM. The first graphics cards were called Monochrome Display Adapters (MDAs) and were only capable of producing two colors, green and white. Processors were first introduced in 1974 by the Intel Corporation.
