Safe Keyword Density
Keywords are the words someone might search for that are relevant to your website. Website creators choose keywords that will help search engines find their websites, and optimize their websites by placing those keywords in the website content in strategic places. But this practice can be overdone by adding too many keywords.

Theories
-
Search engines don't publicize the rubric they use to determine search engine rankings. The only way to know the best practices for search engine optimization is to make observations and guesses. This is further complicated since specific practices vary from one search engine to another, and may change over time as well.
Definition of Keyword
-
Another complicating factor is the definition of "keyword," which can range from a single word to a several-word phrase. For instance, you may have keywords "window blinds" and also refer to "window treatments" and "window shades" in an effort to keep from using "window blinds" too many times. But your keyword density for the word "window" will be much higher than that of any of the two-word phrases.

Don't Overdo It
-
A safe keyword density is just over 3 percent, when measuring the total number of keywords as a percentage of the total words on the page, according to Ian McAnerin from McAnerin International, an SEO firm. But in practice, the number varies from one industry to another, according to Eric Enge from Search Engine Watch, so you should compare your keyword density to that of leading websites in your category of product or service.
