Lactic acid will slough off dead skin cells, effectively removing the dry layers of skin. Lactic acid is fermented from milk and can be purchased over-the-counter at your local drug store. Salicylic acid is a popular acid infused into many cleansers to help slough off dead skin cells. Use a cleanser formulated with lactic or salicylic acid twice a day on the affected area.
Moisturize
-
Apply an oil on the effected area. Dry skin will benefit from the daily application of jojoba oil, olive oil or coconut oil. The oil will create a barrier between the skin and external stressors, help moisturize the skin and prevent the skin from cracking. The polyphenols contained in the oils are antioxidants that offer moisturizing benefits.

Emollient
-
Apply an emollient that will act as a humectant. Humectants are substances that pull moisture from the air and hold moisture onto the effected area. Humectants are able to soften dry, scaly skin. Apply a thin layer of glycerin to ensure that the area has optimal moisture levels.
