Matte and UV business cards each have unique benefits.

If you're ready to get some new business cards printed, one of the first decisions you have to make is whether you prefer matte or UV-coated cards. Each finish has benefits and drawbacks.

  1. Matte Coating

    • Business cards with matte coating have a dull, yet smooth finish. The cards have an "eggshell" texture and are ideal if you want to be able to easily write on the card.

    UV Coating

    • UV coating gives business cards the shiny, slick finish that you're probably used to seeing. More than just aesthetic, this coating protects the card from water damage and fading.

    Drawbacks

    • Each type of business card coating also has its downsides. Matte coating, for instance, will make your business card more susceptible to moisture and fading, as well as potentially giving off a less-professional image than other options. UV coating can be harder to directly write on and often costs more than matte finish.
