    • If the binding substance used to construct MDF lumber is a resin made with urea-formaldehyde, the resulting MDF panels may emit the pungent, yet colorless gas formaldehyde, according to the EPA. High levels of formaldehyde can have a negative effect on your health, such as irritating the eyes and nose, triggering asthma attacks or causing cancer.
