Mid-line and Side Flank Navel Pain
-
Common causes of flank pain around the mid-line area below the navel can be due to a urinary tract infection, painful bladder syndrome (interstitial cystitis), pelvic inflammatory disease, menstrual discomfort, miscarriage, endometriosis or constipation. Other common causes of flank pain that may occur on either side of the navel area can be ovarian syndrome, ovarian cysts, kidney infection or an ectopic pregnancy.
Right Side Flank Navel Pain
-
An appendicitis is a very common cause of flank pain on the right side of the navel area. If having pain on the right side, it may be best to visit the emergency room, as the possibility of the appendix bursting may be life threatening. Other organs surround that area such as the gallbladder and liver that can also be the cause of flank pain in that area.

Left Side Flank Navel Pain
-
The cause of flank pain on the left side can sometimes be due to an enlarged spleen. An enlarged spleen is often a sign of something else going wrong in the body, however; it can also be due to the spleen itself being diseased, which is called primary hypersplenism. Another possible reason for left side flank pain is pancreatitis.
