Fashion For a Renaissance Wedding

Renaissance weddings have become more popular over the years and are a creative way for the bride and groom to say, "I do." Whether the couple chooses a traditional Renaissance ceremony or decides to choose a more unique route, there are plenty of costume options available.

Wedding Gowns

One of the challenges a bride faces when planning a Renaissance wedding is the color of her dress. Renaissance woman traditionally did not wear white, however, many brides request to have a Renaissance style dress made in white.

Bridesmaid Dresses

Finding bridesmaid dresses is generally easier than the bride's dress. Many brides choose to dress their bridesmaids as peasants or ladies in waiting. Deep greens, burgundy and navy were popular in Renaissance times.

Groom and Groomsmen

Men should generally wear padded jackets, hosiery, square-toed shoes and ruffled collared shirts. In Renaissance times, men always wore their best clothes to weddings. Costumes should reflect the rich textures and saturated colors of the time.

Hairstyles

Women wore their hair long and flowing. The bride could add a headdress or simple crown.

Guest Attire

Guests should choose clothes that are rich in textures and colors but that do not over shine the bride's and groom's outfits. Dark, saturated colors of green, navy and burgundy are traditional Renaissance colors.
