Baccarat Tournament Strategy
In a baccarat tournament, players must adjust their strategy since competition takes place between players, rather than between the player and the house. In baccarat, two hands are dealt, one to the player and one to the dealer (called the "bank"), and the players then bet on which hand will win. Several strategies exist among top-level tournament baccarat players.
-
Rules: Betting Rounds
-
Each competitor begins the tournament with the same number of chips, and proceeds through rounds of betting, each containing a certain amount of deals. As players are eliminated, the amount of tables decreases.
Rules: Round Winners
-
At the end of each round, the player at the table with the most chips wins the round. It is possible to win a round even if incurring a net loss during the round, i.e. if a player begins the round with a huge lead in chips and no other player is able to catch up, that player wins the round, even if incurring a loss.

Conserve Bankroll
-
One strategy is to make small wagers early on and wait until later stages of the tournament (when there is an established leader) to bet more aggressively. This strategy makes it easier to remain in the game until later rounds, and once there is a concrete number (the chip leader's total) to aim for, it is easier to decide how much to bet on each hand.
Aggressive Early
-
Some players feel that they are more likely to win when playing with an early lead, and therefore bet higher amounts at early stages of the tournament, then scale back their bets once they have gained position. These players will start to bet heavily again when they see others gaining ground. They run the risk of being knocked out of the tournaments early on, however.
Play Streaks
-
Other players vary the sizes of their bets based on the streaks they find themselves on. These players bet higher amounts when they are winning and scale back their bets when losing.
