What Is the JPX File Extension?
Although file extensions allow computers to identify file types and select an appropriate program to access files, some file extensions are used for different purposes for multiple programs. An example of this is the JPX file extension.
-
Identification
-
A file with the JPX file extension is known either as a JPEG 2000 image file or a Jbuilder project file.
Source
-
Originally developed by Borland and now distributed through Embarcadero, Jbuilder is the program that creates Jbuilder project files. Jbuilder allows users to create applications or software using the Java programming language.
-
Function
-
A JPEG 2000 image file contains a picture known as a raster image, meaning it consists of tiny dots or pixels rather than geometric shapes and lines. A Jbuilder project file contains a software application developed with Jbuilder.
Features
-
Jpeg 2000 image files are compressed so that the images take up less space on a hard drive or disc. The compressions may be "lossless," meaning the image is identical to the raw photograph or picture the file was saved from or "lossy," meaning that the JPX file is of lower quality than the original.
Programs
-
Available for both Windows and Mac computers, the programs Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Apple Quicktime are capable of opening JPX files. Other programs that support JPX files are Ivanview, Corel Paintshop Pro and Ifranview for Windows.
