What Is a Spry Dataset?

A Spry Data Set lets you set up a website supplying interactive data to the user based on selections made while viewing the page. These dynamic pages display new data without refreshing the entire page.

  1. Elements of a Data Set

    • Spry Data Sets include source files, either HTML or XML, which hold displayable data. Each Data Set requires one or more Spry Data objects to display data on the Web page.

    Data Set Displays

    • When someone visits a website containing a Spry Data Set and clicks on the Spry Data object, the contents of the Data Set show up in a normal HTML table with rows and columns.

    Enhancing the Data Set

    • If you need more than a plain column-and-table layout, use CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) selectors to dress up the result by selecting the "Advanced data selection" check-box on the data selection window.

    Structure of a Data Set

    • View the structure of an XML Data Set by clicking on the top-level “Window” menu and selecting the “Bindings” link. The structure of an HTML Data Set shows up when you specify which HTML elements Dreamweaver should detect.

    Advantages of Spry Data Sets

    • Data retrieved from a Spry Data Set can be validated, sorted, filtered for duplicate objects, refreshed at pre-selected intervals and provide instant feedback to the user.
