Wolfberries Side Effects

Also called Goji berries, Chinese wolfberries have been used in Chinese cultures for over two millennia. The berries are eaten in soups and stews or as fruit, made into teas and drinks and even fermented into wine. The taste is similar to that of raisins or dates.

  1. Immune System

    • Due to its high Vitamin C content, eating wolfberries helps to support your immune system and fend off illnesses.

    Blood Sugar

    • According to a 2005 Journal of the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan, a diet rich in wolfberries can lower a person's blood sugar level by making a person's cells absorb more blood sugar.

    Liver

    • Wolfberries also help protect the liver from lipid accumulation. The wolfberries actually block the liver from absorbing poisonous matter, thereby supporting its healthful functions.

    Relaxation

    • Wolfberries are even given to promote relaxation and reduce blood pressure. The berries relax involuntary muscles, thereby relaxing the recipient's body and lowering his stress level and blood pressure.

    Heat

    • Wolfberries are given to lower body temperatures in cases of fevers or overheating as well.

    Considerations

    • Do not consume wolfberries while pregnant or trying to become pregnant, or while nursing. Discuss any new herbal supplements or diet with your physician before use.
