What Is an Induction Hot Plate?
Induction hot plates allow you to expand your cooking surface by using portable burners. These burners remain cool to the touch, making them ideal for homes with small children. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Size
-
Induction hot plates are large enough for one pot (large or small). If you want a larger induction unit, purchase an induction cooktop for your stove.
Function
-
Induction hot plates use an electromagnetic current to produce heat. This current heats up the pot and cooks your food, but doesn't heat up the surface of the burner.
-
Warning
-
These units only work when you have a ferrous pot on the hot plate. When you take the pot off the hot plate, you break the electromagnetic current and the hot plate shuts off.
Considerations
-
You can only use stainless steel, cast iron or enamel cookware that has a flat bottom with your induction hot plate. Aluminum cookware won't work with the magnetic current, and curved-bottom cookware won't work either.
Features
-
Some induction hot plates have a timer, automatic shut-off or overheat prevention features.
