This big SEVs base engine was a strong and reliable V6.

As of 2007, Cadillac offered one of three V6 engines in every vehicle it produced. Both engines were powerful and reliable, but the smaller of the two went out of production that year.

  1. Engine Options

    • The three V6 engines offered in 2007 Cadillacs were the 2.8L LP1 (and its turbocharged LP9 variant) and the more modern 3.6L LY7 engine.

    Applications

    • The naturally aspirated LP1 was only offered in the 2005-2007 CTS, and its turbocharged brother could be found in BLS executive compact car. The 3.6L was used in everything else.

    Horsepower

    • The 2007 LP1 produced 210 horsepower at 6,500 rpm, and its turbocharged LP9 variant made 252 horsepower. The 3.6L used in Cadillacs made 255 horsepower.

    Replacement

    • The 2.8L engines went out of use in Cadillacs in 2009, replaced by the larger displacement 3.6L and 4.0L engines. The 3.6L engine was preferred as the base offering for its torque advantage over the 2.8L.

    Fun Fact

    • GM developed a twin-turbocharged, 395 horsepower variant of the LP1 for use in the Saab Aero-X concept car. GM Performance currently produces a bolt-on twin-turbo kit designed for this engine which is almost identical to that used on the Aero-X.
