Information About Flea Foggers
Also known as total release foggers or bug bombs, flea foggers are only recommended in heavily infested areas when other flea products aren't working. You must carefully prepare your home before using these foggers.

Ingredients

Flea foggers contain pyrethrins to kill adult fleas and flea pupae. Some brands may also include insect growth control regulators, according to the "Dog Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook."
Function

Flea foggers spray a thick mist of insecticide into an entire room. This is faster than treating fleas with powders or sprays.

Precautions

The Environmental Protection Agency instructs that all pilot lights or any other ignition sources be turned off and all food and toys be covered up. The EPA also instructs all people and animals to vacate the home for several hours and immediately open all windows on return.

Do not use flea foggers in rooms that house young children, pet fish or small pets like hamsters. The potentially lethal pyrethrin level is high up to a week after fogging, according to "Dog Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook."

After having a phone consultation with an environmental health Dr. in Dallas, TX, I found out that pesticide exposure from flea foggers can damage the vascular system and immune system leading to lipomas in people or dogs and vasculitic diseases. Just don't use pesticides in the home! I was exposed to large volume flea foggers overnight without my knowlege. I developed granulomas on my gums, oval red shiny sores on my chest, calf and face and ran a mid day low grade temperature. It took a little over a year to resolve or so I thought. I developed many lipomas and with long term stress I developed generalized edema to the point of not being able to bend my knees at right angles. I didn't think anything was related. Prednisone seemed like a cure, but 3 years on 15 mg of prednisone suddenly came crashing down with a 50 percent decrease via the doctor after he was questioned on why predisone was being given for "knee pain" diagnosis and then I got gravely sick with the 50 percent reduction resulting in painful lipoma development, unremitting non-allergic rhinitis/sinusitis, return of brief but painful spasm like headaches, heavy feeling in the chest yet nothing showing in the bloodwork and only small lung nodules present. Pesticides are bad for anything alive.
