FTA Satellite Information
A FTA (free to air) satellite is a television receiver that is able to receive unencrypted broadcasts. Modern receivers work with digital broadcasts while older ones work with analog systems.
-
Function
-
FTA receivers are sold in the United States to allow access to the free-to-air satellite channels such as the major networks (ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC) and also certain public broadcast channels, ethnic and religious channels.
Features
-
FTA satellite receivers offer some of the same features as cable satellite receivers including installation menus, channel sorting, user settings and parental control.
-
Benefits
-
FTA satellites are useful in rural settings. Because digital TV signals do not travel far outside urban settings, FTA satellites can be used to pick up those feeds.
Warning
-
Because technology is changing at such a rapid pace there is the possibility of satellites becoming outdated or even obsolete over time.
Fun Fact
-
As is the case with cable TV or other types of satellite programing, there are receivers capable of featuring high-definition resolution.
