Lawn Mowing Facts & Information
Proper mowing techniques promote a healthy, attractive lawn and increase its resistance to pests, disease and weeds. No commercial product can make up for improper mowing. Does this Spark an idea?

Preparation
-
Gasoline powered lawnmowers should be tuned every spring before mowing season begins. A well-tuned lawnmower has 50 percent fewer emissions than an un-tuned mower and will have a longer life. All lawnmowers should have their blades sharpened at the beginning of the season.
Quantity
-
Cool season grasses should not be cut lower than 3 ½ inches and warm season grasses not lower than 2 inches. No more than 1/3 of the blade should be removed at any one time.
-
Technique
-
Alternating the direction of mowing each time promotes an even lawn.
Timing
-
Do not mow a lawn when it is wet. It will cause the tips of the blades to shred and turn brown.
Mulching
-
Leaving grass clippings on the lawn nourishes the lawn and reduces the need for fertilizer.
Precaution
-
Add a gasoline stabilizer to the remaining gas in the lawnmower's gas tank at the end of the season. Using old gas that has not been stabilized will damage the mower.
