What Is an Acne Product for Acne Vulgaris?
Acne vulgaris is another name for what is known as common acne. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), about 40 to 50 million people in the United States have acne. Though the exact cause of acne is still unknown, the AAD advises that inflammation, excess oil, bacteria and clogged pores are key elements in the development of acne. Any treatment or product designed to control or clear acne should target one or all of these elements. Does this Spark an idea?

Treatment
-
A product that treats acne usually works to reduce oil production, speed up new skin growth and remove dead skin cells, advises the Mayo Clinic. For inflammation, an acne product should also fight bacterial infection.
Product
-
According to the Mayo Clinic, benzoyl peroxide is the most effective main ingredient found in both over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription acne products. Benzoyl peroxide removes excess oil and dead skin cells and kills the P. acnes bacteria that are crucial in acne breakouts.

Symptoms
-
The University of Michigan Health System advices that acne symptoms can include pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. These acne symptoms can appear anywhere on the body, but are prone to appear on the face, neck, shoulders, back and chest areas.
Precautions
-
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), you should use skin care products that are labeled as noncomedogenic or nonacnegenic, meaning they will not clog pores. Also, not wearing tight or constrictive clothing can help keep acne from worsening.
Considerations
-
While benzoyl peroxide is an effective acne-fighting ingredient, an acne product or acne-fighting system (line of products) may include other acne-fighting ingredients to treat your skin. Products containing sulfur, salicylic acid or resorcinol are also effective acne treatments, according to Medline Plus.
