Various Styles of Hurricane Candle Holders

Any candle with protection from the wind is hurricane-style

Hurricane lamps are characterized by a tall cylinder called a chimney that protects the flame from being blown out in strong winds. Although hurricane lamps are now typically used only in camping and other outdoor activities, hurricane-style electric lamps and candle holders are very popular.

Features

Any candle or lamp that has a cylinder going from the base to above the flame is made in hurricane-style. The chimney itself can be constructed of many different materials.

Traditional

Original hurricane candle holders have a brass bottom and glass chimney. The glass is clear and can be plain or etched in an intricate design.

Chimney

The chimney on a modern hurricane candle holders may be made from clear, frosted or colored glass, mosaics, ceramics or other materials. The shape may be traditional, tubular or square.

Base

A hurricane candle holder's base may be metal, wood or ceramic. It can be square, round or oval, depending on the type of candle used.

Crafts
