Water is vital for our bodily functions to work properly. Lack of water has been shown to cause headaches, heartburn and arthritis. There are many benefits to drinking water, among them the ability to control your appetite by making you feel full.

  3. Our bodies need water to survive in a healthy way. Water plays a role in every bodily function. Dehydration will occur when the body is not getting the proper amount of water, causing dry mouth, nausea and other discomfort.

  5. When your body temperature rises, water and electrolytes in your body combine to produce perspiration in order to cool down. When losing fluids due to sweating, it is important to take in water in order to keep the body's temperature regulated.

  7. You can aid the digestion process by drinking water during and after meals. The water, along with other liquids, helps break down food in the stomach in order to keep the digestive system working smoothly.

  9. When you are mildly dehydrated consistently, your metabolism can decrease by up to 3%. Drinking water helps maintain a steady rate of metabolism. You can also mildly suppress your appetite by drinking 3 cups of water 30 minutes before you eat.

  11. Even with the recommended eight glasses of water a day, the water does not have to be in liquid form. Almost every kind of food or drink provides at least a little water to the body.
