Nutritional Value of Tomato Juice

Tomato juice is a healthy beverage. It contains many essential nutrients and, especially in its natural form, is low in ingredients that you should avoid.

  1. Calories

    • Typical tomato juice has about 40 calories per serving, but depending on the brand, the calorie count can range from 35 up to 60.

    Vitamins

    • Tomato juice is a strikingly good source of several important vitamins. A serving of tomato juice has almost one quarter of a day's recommended vitamin A and almost three quarters of the recommended vitamin C. It is also high in vitamins B-6 and K.

    Minerals

    • Although iron is likely to be the most prominent mineral found on the nutritional facts chart, tomato juice is also a good source of potassium, niacin, thiamine, magnesium and phosphorus, among others.

    Fat and Cholesterol

    • Most commercially sold tomato juice is devoid of cholesterol and free or nearly free of any fat content as well.

    Sugar and Salt

    • Sugar and salt content present the only possible downsides for incorporating tomato juice into your diet. Sugars in most tomato juices approach nine grams per serving, close to that of some sugary cereals. Tomato juice that has salt added can have over a quarter of your daily sodium per serving. On the other hand, tomato juice naturally has only negligible traces of sodium when salt is not added.
