Rooster Vs. Hen

The main difference between a rooster and a hen is that the former is male and the latter is female. Their appearance differs in several ways.

Chickens

Comb and Waffle

The comb is a plume of flesh that protrudes from a chicken's head, while the waffle is the lobe of flesh dangling from the chin. A rooster's comb and waffle of the rooster are bigger and brighter than a hen's. A rooster uses its comb to attract mates.

Color

A rooster tends to have colorful feathers, while a hen has comparatively pale plumage.

Size

A Rooster is taller and looks sturdier than a hen, which is usually plumper and shorter.

Tail and Neck Feathers

A rooster has long, bright tail feathers as well as longer and thinner neck feathers. A hen has short, simple tail feathers as well as short, rounded neck feathers.

Crowing

A roosters is known to crow at the crack of dawn. A hen doesn't.
