Highlights are a great way to change the overall style, texture and color of your hair without completely dyeing it. Several types of hair highlights offer a variety of different looks. The length, texture and health of the hair are all factors that should be considered when deciding what type of hair highlights work best for you.

  2. Thin

  3. Thin highlights are the most traditional way of adding color to the hair. They are typically more softer and subtle, adding about 60 percent to 70 percent of color throughout the hair.
  4. Chunky

  5. Chunky highlights add bold color to a person's hair. The technique is achieved by "chunking" hair color on one- to three-inch strands of hair throughout the head.
  6. Frosted

  7. Frosting creates a lighting effect throughout the hair. This look is achieved by adding a hair color that's lighter than the natural hair to tiny strands of hair all over the head.
  8. Dimensional

  9. Multi-dimensional highlights are achieved by adding many different shades of color to the hair. These colors should be similar in shade and blend well together.
  10. Dip-dyed

  11. Dip-dyeing is a technique used to dye only the tips (ends) of the hair. Bright colors are typically used to add a bold contrast between natural and dyed hair.
  12. Homemade

  13. Lemons, olive oil and chamomile are natural ingredients that can help you get sun-kissed highlights.
